On January 6th 1866 several sailing ship owners founded the "Vereinigte Bugsir-Dampfschiff-Gesellschaft" to safely assist vessels to their berths. The company quickly developed into the biggest Towage Company in Hamburg and was renamed several times while merging with other companies and expanding the towage and salvage business. It now operates under the name "Bugsier-, Reederei- und Bergungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG" since 06.11.1995.
